AGV helmets are made in both Italy and China, despite the brand being based in Italy. The helmet range you choose from will largely decide where it’s manufactured. For example, the entry-level AGV K1 is made in China, whereas the Moto GP-inspired AGV Pista GP-RR is made in Italy.
Should I Avoid Buying an AGV Helmet Made in China?
Absolutely not!
Over the last few decades, the “Made in China” label has become synonymous with the idea of cheap products and quality control issues. Some consumers even associate Chinese-made goods with potential health risks. While these statements may have held some truth in the past, the reality is that Chinese manufacturing has come a long way in recent years.
Take the AGV K3, for example. This budget-friendly helmet is manufactured in China and boasts an impressive 4-Star SHARP Rating. This verdict is the result of a rigorous assessment that consists of 32 impact tests across the helmet.
Based in the UK, SHARP conducts its tests on 7 random examples that are independently sourced and purchased. If the level of quality was subpar or inconsistent across any of the helmets, this would drastically impact the results!
Do AGV Helmets Come with a Warranty?
All helmets manufactured by AGV (including those made in China) come with a minimum 2-year warranty.
Would AGV be confident enough to offer this if they weren’t entirely confident in their ability to produce quality goods?
Bonus Tip: Registering your helmet with AGV within the first 60 days after purchasing will extend your warranty (for free) by:
- 3 years for the Corsa, Pista GP & GT Veloce range
- 2 years for the K3 & K5 range
- 1 year for all other models
Bearing in mind that you’re supposed to replace your lid every 5 years, this means every AGV can be covered for at least 3 of those!
Final Thoughts
Chinese manufacturing allows AGV, and many other brands, to offer consumers premium products at more affordable prices.
Don’t be put off by the “Made in China” label, there’s a good reason why AGV is world-renowned.
